Well what a year!  As you (hopefully) approach a break marking the end of the year, I wanted to say a massive thank you for volunteering your precious time to give skills for life to young people across the County.  There are so many different roles performed by you, both in uniform and out of uniform; as section administrators, parent helpers, assistant leaders and leaders, group leaders and trustees, district leaders & commissioners and district trustees, county leaders, assistant county commissioners, trainers and advisers and the county trustees, all playing your part for the benefit of young people.
Obviously we don’t always agree with the way things are managed or directed and change always brings difficulties, but we never forget that we are a ‘movement’ all working together to provide young people with opportunities, those outside of Scouting do not experience.

Looking forward, 2018 looks to be a really great year too.  I am quietly confident that our census figures will show an increase in young people and adult volunteers, with the creation of new groups as well as an increase in those sections where numbers have been low.  Thank you to those of you who have enabled the growth and also to those who have looked at their numbers and increased capacity.  Giving more young people than ever before, the opportunity to experience Scouting is definitely something to be proud of.

Please come along to the County ‘Tune-Up’ weekend in April.  I promise that there will be something for everyone, whether that is; a chance to learn a new skill, develop an existing one, ask questions relating to Inclusion, how to be more 'Youth Led', share knowledge with your peers, or just to socialise with your friends and colleagues over a beer or glass of wine, it promises to be a great weekend.

Now, hopefully you’ll have the chance to have a break from scouting to refresh and recharge in time for 2018.

Lastly, I’d like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas, to raise a glass to those who have 'Gone Home' in 2017 and to hope you have a very happy new year.

All the best
